Dennis Houston’s unexpected ascent up the Dallas Cowboys depth chart and onto the 53-man roster is done, at least for the time being. During that ascent, the Texas native went from being an undrafted free agent to an NFL player who earned QB Dak Prescott’s trust.
Dallas waived Houston on Tuesday as part of a roster restructuring as they get ready to meet the New York Giants in Week 3 and as Michael Gallup works to recover from offseason knee surgery, Houston’s presence was no longer necessary.
However, there is a “but.”
In his three preseason games, Houston only managed three catches for 53 yards; in his regular season time, he only managed two catches for 16 yards. He did, however, swiftly learn up on Dallas’ offensive strategy and establish a good relationship with quarterback Dak Prescott of the Cowboys.
“Whatever position he is in when you break the huddle, he will be lining up in the proper place. He is where I anticipate him to be on every play, “At boot camp, Prescott added.
“He’s just a strong, resilient guy.
I was all ready to tweet that the Dallas offense was really struggling with their end-of-game offense. And then this happens.

The 6-1, 200-pound Houston will benefit from that quality as he was unclaimed off waivers as anticipated and will now return to the Cowboys as a member of the practice squad.
Houston played wide receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb, Noah Brown, who proved to be a capable starter in these first two games, and Gallup. Simi Fehoko, KaVontae Turpin, and rookie Jalen Tolbert all keep their positions this week as other members of The Star’s wideout group. Rookie Jalen Tolbert may be ready to participate for the first time.
Dennis Houston is now employed as well.
